During the last summer transfer window, one of the names for the striker role that several top Italian clubs had their eyes on was Alvaro Morata. The Spanish forward, formerly of Juventus, was linked with the Bianconeri again as well as Milan, Roma, and Inter.
Morata, in fact, was interviewed by Gazzetta dello Sport and revealed what happened during his summer: "I was in a particular situation, with my contract with Atletico Madrid expiring. I renewed it, significantly altering my financial conditions for reasons of financial fair play and the club's wage bill, and also changing the conditions for a potential sale."
On Milan and other clubs contacting him:
"Milan got in touch, then the coaches called me because I have good relationships with all of them. Allegri coached me. The same goes for Mourinho, who additionally gave me my debut at Madrid. I liked the idea of going to Rome and to Roma, to play with Paulo (Dybala) and in a club and a city full of passion where football is experienced like in South America. I've known Inzaghi for years, we've met on vacation: he's an incredible coach and a spectacular person to spend time with, be together, talk. He's someone who radiates a lot of positive energy."
