On the sidelines of the event organised by Il Foglio Sportivo at San Siro, AC Milan President Paolo Scaroni spoke to the media.
Here are his words as relayed via Milan News:
"San Siro the other night was a heavy, difficult day. We would like to win against Inter occasionally; we have lost too many games in a row. But the season is not over yet: we must fight to defend second place. But I consider the season good, perhaps not excellent. We've had many injuries, and there are reflections to be made on that. But all in all, we've overcome this as well. Inter thoroughly deserved to win the championship. I congratulate Inter, Marotta, and Antonello."
Can you confirm that Pioli will not be Milan's coach next season?
"No, I can't confirm that. Our coach is Pioli, at this moment and until the end of the season, it will be him. I expect Pioli to win the games we want to win to secure second place. Then, at the end of the season, Pioli and the management will make evaluations for the future. I would like to avoid this topic until the end of the season."
Who has disappointed you this season? Scaroni answered:
"It's not that they disappointed me, but sometimes in the stands behind me, I found Milan's defence. Tomori, Thiaw, Kalulu: all injured, and I thought about the defence being there with me instead of on the field. It's not just this, but it has been a negative aspect of the season."
On the relationship with Paolo Maldini?
"I haven't heard from him anymore. When someone looks at their past with a certain bitterness, it means they're not living the present very well. I hope this is not the case with Maldini. I wish Maldini a personal life full of satisfaction."
Marotta said that for the title, Italian players were fundamental, a backbone...
"In general, when Marotta says something, I tend to give him a lot of credit; I think he is the person who understands football the most in Italy. There is truth in that, having more Italian players is desirable. Then you have to find them, it's not an easy combination. This year we brought Gabbia back home, and he turned out to be very useful for our season."
You tried to bring Serie A to 18 teams, Galliani called it a crude attempt.
"I'll go to savoir-faire lessons from Galliani. I can't be rough; I'll have him explain it to me as he has done it many times successfully in the past. Going to 18 teams will be a matter of gravity: it will happen because we can't continue like this anymore and play so many games. It jeopardises the health of our players; I believe we have to do something. We can't just sit there and endure FIFA's competition; the calendars become unsustainable. Ask Casini (president of Lega Serie A) the effort we make to compose the calendars."
On the new stadium, Scaroni said:
"San Donato is more than just an option; we have spent over 40 million for the land. The project continues despite all the Italian problems because as soon as there is a noisy minority, politics always steps back. Sala asked us to reconsider the hypothesis of a light and satisfying renovation of San Siro by June. We could only agree to the deal with the mayor, so we're waiting to know what this renovation means for the facility, regarding the audience with closed sections of the stadium while we play. Conciliating this with the works has always been the problem Milan has faced."
