Mike Maignan's season has been peculiar: a rollercoaster between excellent performances, several shortcomings, and the usual injuries. It's precisely his physical condition that is starting to make AC Milan think, as reported today by Corriere dello Sport.
Over three seasons, the Frenchman has missed a whopping 39 matches due to injuries: practically a whole season. It's clear that this year, his absence has been cushioned by Marco Sportiello, who has always been ready, but it's a situation that needs to be addressed.
Added to this is also the issue of contract renewal. Maignan is tied to the Rossoneri colors until 2026, for two more seasons. Discussions have already started this year for a possible extension of the agreement, well in advance to avoid unpleasant surprises. The goalkeeper is asking for a salary similar to Leao's, around 7 million euros: a significant figure for the club, which has yet to reach an agreement with its goalkeeper.
Taking all of this into consideration, today Corriere dello Sport emphasizes how it might make sense for AC Milan to monetize on a potential sale of Maignan, as they did with Tonali last year.
