La Gazzetta dello Sport this morning reported that yesterday, Milan informed Stefano Pioli that he will no longer be the coach of the Rossoneri starting from the 2024-2025 season.
In the coming days, the parties will decide whether to terminate the contract, which is otherwise valid until June 30, 2025, with a severance package, or if the club will proceed with termination and continue to pay the former Fiorentina coach for another year or until he finds another club.
Meanwhile, Milan is moving forward, and the management is also working to finalise the arrival of Pioli's successor. According to the newspaper mentioned above, all signs point to Paulo Fonseca, born in 1973, former coach of Roma, Shakhtar Donetsk, Sporting Braga, and Porto, who has just finished the season with Lille in the French league (his contract expires this summer).
The Ligue 1 club have offered him a renewal, and Olympique Marseille is pushing for the Portuguese coach as well.
As per the source, however, Milan's appeal is stronger for Fonseca. The Portuguese coach, though, doesn't exactly excite the Rossoneri fan base, but a precedent may provide encouragement.
Pioli was welcomed with a #PioliOut on social media, while the Portuguese coach risks being 'anticipated' by the hashtag #Nonseca. If Pioli won a Scudetto, Fonseca will have to achieve at least the same result to win the trust of the fans.
