The Serie A is ready to bid farewell to (at least) 223 goals. This morning's edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, on newsstands, analyzes the numbers of Olivier Giroud, Victor Osimhen, and Romelu Lukaku, who will leave the Italian top flight.
The Frenchman arrived in the summer of 2021 and, despite being a world champion with France in 2018 and having won enough in England between Arsenal and Chelsea, some fans had raised eyebrows because he was almost 35 years old and seemed to be nearing the end of his career. Few imagined he would score so much, 48 goals in 131 games for Milan, and that he would be decisive for the 2022 title.
Oli will forever remain in the memories and hearts of Milan fans for his brace in the derby on February 5, 2022. Inter led 1-0 at halftime, but in the second half, Giroud turned the tide with two goals, as pointed by Milan Press.
The second, a volley, became a chant: "Giroud turned around." Milan snatched the title from Inter. Then Giroud decided another derby, with the goal for a temporary 3-1 lead on September 3, ending 3-2.
Giroud leaves with the affection of Milan fans because Olivier has shown his love and dedication for the great Milan shirt.
San Siro will applaud him today before the Frenchman flies to the United States, to California, to join Los Angeles FC, where he will find Hugo Lloris, his French national teammate and great friend.
