Despite having shown, both in the last season and in the European Championship from which Belgium was just eliminated, that he no longer has the same sparkle as before, Romelu Lukaku is still capable of making a difference in Serie A.
That is why the Rossoneri club keeps this option on the table. AC Milan, however, is proceeding cautiously because, as highlighted by the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, the current conditions are not suitable for going all-in on the Belgian player. Chelsea's demands, around 40 million for the transfer, are considered absolutely out of scale at Casa Milan, especially for a 31-year-old striker.
In the past two seasons, Lukaku has been loaned out at the end of the summer transfer window, first for 7.8 million euros (Inter, 2022), then for 5.8 million euros (Roma, 2023). If in the coming weeks Chelsea were to lower their demands and open up to a loan with an obligation to buy, Milan might then consider making a move. This is unlikely to happen, however, before the second half of August, and the Rossoneri management cannot afford to wait that long... Therefore, they are waiting for Chelsea's discount.
