Álvaro Morata, after Spain's triumph, of which he is the captain, at Euro 2024, appeared at a press conference thanking some key figures of Atlético Madrid, the team that holds his contract:
"I want to thank Miguel Ángel Gil (the CEO of Atlético), Cholo Simeone, and Koke, because they understood me during difficult times."
"In this European Championship. I had to put on the clothes of a laborer; I didn't score many goals, but I worked as if I were a fan. It's the most beautiful thing in my career."
These statements from Morata follow those made to RaiSport's microphones immediately after the match:
"Now it's time to enjoy this victory and go on vacation. Milan? Well, we'll see...".
As pointed out by MilanNews.it, it's clear Morata didn't want to reveal too much, but it's equally evident that between the thanks to Atlético Madrid and the little smile during that "we'll see", there's a lot about his now highly probable transfer to Milan.
For the Spaniard, a four-year contract with the Rossoneri club at five million euros plus bonuses per season has been ready for days. All that's missing is the green light from the player himself, expected even in the next few hours.
