The first official outing for Milan Futuro ends 0-3 against Lecco in the first round of the Coppa Italia Serie C. Mattia Liberali opened the scoring, but applause also goes to Alex Jimenez, who scored a brace. Lapo Nava was also excellent. Here are the words of Daniele Bonera, the coach, in the press conference reported by MilanPress.
"I have to say there was doubt about how long we could maintain this intensity. I’m happy. Victories help, and moving forward from these wins boosts our morale. We started preparation early and had a few extra weeks compared to Mister Baldini’s team."
Bonera added:
"I know the path these players have taken with Mister Abate very well. I know the inputs required. We have a good foundation. Many train with the first team, but they already have extra experience. It will be important to involve everyone. That’s the Milan Futuro project. We are good at managing the ball, but we need to improve in many areas. Tonight, our average age was 19, which is unthinkable for Serie C."
He continued:
"They are all good guys, and that helps. Sharing Milanello is beneficial. The other day, Fonseca’s assistant was here, and we had a meeting with a continuous exchange of ideas. The presence of Ibrahimovic and Fonseca pleases me a lot: it shows the importance the club places on the project."
Bonera concluded:
"In the second half, we did not expect what is then required by Serie C: the cleverness to better manage game time. Bringing home the result is something that boosts the team’s confidence."
