At the end of the meeting with Milan and Inter at Palazzo Marino regarding the future of San Siro, Mayor Giuseppe Sala revealed the decision made by the two clubs and provided an update on the situation. Here are his statements:
Did you ask for guarantees that other projects won't proceed?
"Today, I can't ask for that. When I provide them with the necessary data, I will also be obliged to. It’s not an issue at the moment; I haven’t raised it. And I don’t want to say anything more about the two possible stadiums I have previously commented on, even critically. For now, I’ll remain silent and try to move forward."
How did the clubs react to this request? Sala replied:
"Logically. I have two years or maybe a bit more, which is not a very long time, and it’s clear that everything needs to be done quite quickly. I am putting my face on the line as long as there are no further changes. I explained to them that, respecting my role, there are technical-administrative characteristics, and then there are political issues, the main one being that I understand, and it’s unfortunate, the possible disorientation of many fans and citizens who have seen so much. If I may, we might see the green light relatively soon, if not all of it."
Will you update us in February? When?
"Certainly before then. Well, I don’t know."
Compared to 2019, it seems that time has almost been wasted, 5 years... Sala said:
"Anyway, we are talking about a very significant investment. We are talking about a new facility. The purchase of the existing one, the areas, and the functions to be developed on the sites. We are talking about a very substantial amount. Now having two solid owners, because often our clubs are not indebted, debts can often affect the properties, and it also depends on who owns them. Now the two parties are very solid and working together, which is a guarantee."
