Matteo Gabbia, the AC Milan defender who decided the derby with a header in the final minutes of the match, is present at the press conference after Inter-Milan. Here's what he said to the journalists:
Is this the happiest day of your life?
"One of the happiest, but I’m really pleased for the team. We were coming from a period where we weren’t too happy with what we had done. We trained well and prepared for this match properly. Then the team played fantastically."
What has changed? Gabbia answered:
"Nothing has changed: our level in training has always been high and positive, but results create doubts about everything. Tonight, we understood the importance of an evening like this. The forwards were fantastic in their defensive efforts. This must be a starting point."
What did coach Paulo Fonseca say to you?
"The coach did a great job after the Liverpool match: he prepared the game the right way, showing us what went wrong against Liverpool and offering us the winning strategy. Tonight, it was a great victory for him and the staff as well; they get more criticism than they should because we make mistakes on the pitch too. Tonight’s victory was for the entire team. The key today was the forwards."
Did all the rumours stay outside Milanello?
"Our job is to make sure that we, as players and staff, don’t give weight to what’s happening outside, because we focus on the matches, with all the expectations and anxieties. As long as we have Fonseca, we will follow him until the end, doing our best for ourselves and for him."
