Matteo Gabbia gave an interview to Vivo Azzurro TV after his first hours in training camp with the Italian national team in Coverciano.
The AC Milan defender earned his first call-up to Italy's national team thanks to his convincing performances with Milan.

Here’s what he said:
"I didn’t expect the call-up, although I was hoping for it", he said. "Being here is a special feeling, and I’m very happy. I’ll try to enjoy this week, give my best, and understand what the coach wants. Wearing the national team jersey is a source of pride and a great responsibility. It’s a jersey that must be honored at all times."
Gabbia chose to sing "Sarà perché ti amo" by Ricchi e Poveri as his initiation ritual with the Italy national team.
"Singing is not one of my best qualities. I chose this song because they sing it at the stadium when Milan plays. It has a good rhythm, and I like it."
On his start in football, the former Villarreal player said:
"As a boy, I alternated between defence and midfield, and I really admired Paolo Maldini and Daniele De Rossi. The coach’s words meant a lot to me, they’re a nice testament of esteem and trust. I’m getting to know Spalletti these days."
Gabbia concluded:
"Spalletti? I had only met him once before at Milanello when he came to watch a training session. He was very cordial, and it’s pleasant talking to him. He made a great impression on me. I haven’t thought about my debut, but I hope it comes in one of these two matches and that Italy wins."
