Monza could soon change ownership. The Gamco fund is interested in purchasing the club and is working to close the deal.
The owner is an Italian-American, Mario Gabelli, who previously clashed with Gerry Cardinale in the Paramount-Skydance matter, where the RedBird owner was allied with Larry Ellison's production company. In an interview given today to Gazzetta dello Sport, the head of Gamco commented on a question regarding tensions with the RedBird owner.
"I understand the question", he said. "But I must say that there is no rivalry between me and Cardinale. On the contrary, I think we're on the same side and want to act in the group's best interest."
Gabelli added:
"However, I have to defend my investors' position and secure the best possible deal for them."
