"Italian football today has a debt of 5.7 billion euros, with 900 million just in the last year. The situation is very delicate: football has made significant contributions to society (about one billion per year) without receiving anything in return."
This was stated by Torino FC and RCS MediaGroup president, Urbano Cairo, speaking at the Festival dello Sport in Trento.
It was mentioned that Italian football generates a total revenue of 11.3 billion euros, of which 6 billion is direct production, as relayed via Milannews.it.
"After the pandemic, the situation worsened significantly due to stadium closures, reduced sponsorship investments, and a drop in the player transfer market. The overall situation needs reform: costs have risen incredibly. Now we can talk about new stadiums and investments, but the first strong rule is to contain costs", Cairo added. (Ansa.it).
