Maldini's dynasty with the Italy national team continues. After the grandfather Cesare, and father Paolo, yesterday was Daniel's night.
The ex Milan player made his debut for Italy during the 74th minute of the match against Israel, which ended 4-1 for the Azzurri. He made his debut under the eyes of his father, Paolo, watching from the stands at the Bluenergy Stadium.
After his debut, in an interview with Rai 1, the Monza attacking midfielder shared his emotions from the match, in which Italy, apart from the moment when Israel scored to make it 2-1, controlled the game until the 4-1 final:
"I think the match was always under control until their goal. Then we managed to hold on with our style of play, and it showed. I hope to bring quality, but there's already plenty of quality. I try to help as much as I can. A message for my dad and mom? I'm happy they're here. I dedicate my debut to all the people who care about me."
So far, Daniel Maldini has had a solid season with Monza
Paolo's son has scored one goal in seven matches this season. After a journey that saw him born and debut in Serie A with AC Milan, he has now reached the National Team, making his debut under the guidance of Luciano Spalletti, by a twist of fate, in the same stadium where Paolo Maldini played his first match for Milan at 16 years old, on January 20, 1985.
A day to remember for Italian football.
A legacy that continues, with the hope that Daniel’s future can bring many successes to both the National Team and himself. 22 years and 118 days after Paolo’s last match for Italy and 61 years and one day after Cesare’s last match, it’s now time for the third Maldini, the first Italian family to achieve this record.
