In the pages of Gazzetta dello Sport, ex Milan coach Fabio Capello commented on the Rossoneri's situation following the defeat against Atalanta:
"They did very little, far too little, especially after Pulisic's injury. Maignan, the goalkeeper, played more balls than many of his teammates. That's not good. That’s not ball possession, but a waste of time and a sign of a lack of confidence in their abilities."

On Milan's difficulties:
"In fact, Milan were slow, hesitant, and managed just two shots on target—one early on with Pulisic and the other on the goal, which came from an exceptional burst of speed by Leao. Then there are the usual mistakes, even by individuals: we’ve spoken about Theo, but on the goal by Lookman that decided the match, Emerson Royal made a major error."
Capello added:
"This defeat is a heavy blow for Milan. I’m not the one saying it; the standings make it clear. Fonseca is now 12 points behind Gasperini, but more concerning than the gap to the top is the one to the Champions League zone. It’s easy to keep saying it’s still early, but if you keep saying that, it eventually gets late. Especially if Serie A doesn't manage to qualify five teams for the most prestigious competition, as happened last year."
