AC Milan's head coach, Sergio Conceicao, spoke to the media in a press conference following the 1-1 draw against Inter in the derby.
Was Milan a team today?
"We did a good job mentally, playing against a strong team that knows itself very, very well and is difficult to face because of the mobility it creates. If you're not careful, you struggle. Abraham won the ball for our first goal just like Morata did in the Supercoppa. Honestly, if you ask me whether the draw was fair, I’d say yes, but today I saw two important signs: when I arrived in the locker room, I saw my players very disappointed and sad, while there was great joy among Inter’s players."
Is a midfielder missing? Conceicao replied:
"We have Loftus-Cheek injured, that’s the situation right now."
Inzaghi said there was a penalty on Marcus Thuram…
"I haven't reviewed it. Inzaghi also spoke about the foul that led to the first goal, but he talks about what he needs to talk about. He faced a strong team. I respect what he said."
Was something missing in dealing with Marcus Thuram?
"The goal we conceded involved two youngsters who had just come on, but they gave their all; these things can be corrected in training. I tried to give the team compactness. I brought on Camarda, Chukwueze, and Jimenez to score a second goal—we didn’t just sit back. I introduced Gabbia to strengthen our presence on set pieces. But in the end, that’s football. Credit to Inter."
Can you promise this attitude will always be there? Conceicao commented:
"We want this consistency in all competitions. Now the transfer market is closing. They even had me with my bags packed—I’ve been here for a month. The team is in sync with our playing style. We work, including on intensity."
Do you have the right players?
"Right now, no, because they’re not fully trained, and video analysis alone isn’t enough—you need to be out on the pitch. I like a team that presses, stays compact, plays high, aggressively, with intensity. Right now, we don’t have that, so we need to adapt our game intelligently. Today, we sat deeper, maybe too much in the second half. We keep working."
