The Municipality of Milan intends to urge the Rossoneri and Nerazzurri clubs to speed up procedures for the construction of the new shared stadium in the San Siro area. Palazzo Marino's goal is to obtain definitive answers in a short timeframe regarding the feasibility document for alternative projects and the offer for the purchase of the stadium and the surrounding area.

If these responses continue to be delayed, the general-interest newspaper reports that the Municipality of Milan would be prepared to cut off communication with the Rossoneri and Nerazzurri and, as a last resort, launch an alternative tender for the sale of the Giuseppe Meazza stadium. The biggest concern for the city administration, led by Mayor Giuseppe Sala, is the fact that both clubs are stalling—likely for different reasons.
Milan, for instance, has not yet formally abandoned its project for an entirely Rossoneri-owned stadium in the municipality of San Donato Milanese (MI), despite requests from both the Municipality of Milan and the Lombardy Region.
For now, Il Corriere della Sera newspaper writes, Milan and Inter have only provided “lukewarm reassurances” about meeting the key deadlines for the sale of San Siro and the surrounding areas before the second-tier structure becomes subject to heritage protection regulations.
The deadline for this is September. The administrative process requires the submission of the alternative project document and the purchase offer. The Municipality of Milan would then officially initiate the procedure, followed by the Conferenza dei Servizi, which should conclude with a declaration of public interest. At the same time, work would continue on the purchase offer.
At that stage, Palazzo Marino would issue a public notice to determine if there are other interested buyers. If so, it would have to be verified who could participate. Would only professional sports clubs be eligible? The Municipality of Milan is therefore demanding clarity from the two clubs as soon as possible regarding the new stadium and the future of San Siro. If this is not an ultimatum, it comes very close.
