There has been a lot of talk surrounding Santiago Gimenez in the final days of the transfer window, but in the end the Mexican stayed at Milan.
The ill-timed remark from Igli Tare just before the match away to Lecce (“We’re trying to swap Gimenez for Dovbyk”) was certainly not one to remember: as Corriere della Sera explains this morning, the Mexican now needs to be rebuilt mentally, but he retains the full backing of the club, starting with Milan’s sporting director himself.

Meanwhile, in the last few hours, Santiago Gimenez’s father also spoke to ClaroSports about the closing days of the market:
“At the start we heard many things being said. Then on Friday, when Santiago started the match, we heard the statements from Milan’s sporting director and began to understand what was really happening. We didn’t know what was going on: he was in the starting XI, but they wanted to sell him. The truth is it was all very confusing. It’s very unusual for a sporting director to make those kinds of comments. Santi’s agent was always in touch with the club."
Santiago Gimenez's father added:
"The club had the opportunity to complete that swap, but Santi was never consulted about the situation. There were rumors, but the reality is that Santi is a Milan player, he has a contract, and on Monday morning all the parties met: the president (likely referring to CEO Giorgio Furlani instead), the sporting director, and advisers like Ibrahimovic, who played an important role, decided that Santi would stay. They pushed hard for that swap, but it was never finalized.”
