A bit unexpectedly this summer, AC Milan, in search of a new right-back after the departures of Davide Calabria, Alessandro Florenzi, Filippo Terracciano, and Kyle Walker, signed Zachary Athekame from Young Boys for around 10 million euros. The Swiss full-back spoke about it to the Swiss outlet Blick.ch during this international break. His statements:
Did you leave Switzerland too soon?
"I have my opinion. Everyone has their own."
The impact of Serie A and Italy:
"It’s all very different. You realize that Switzerland, with no disrespect, is small compared to the real football countries. In Italy, you see the scale and the impact football has on people. It’s another world."
Did you say yes to Milan right away? Athekame replied:
"It’s Milan. Everyone knows the history of this club. For me, it’s an honor to be here."
How did you feel when you learned of Milan’s interest?
"I felt many emotions. But you need to stay clear-headed. I’m very happy and now I focus on work."
Since his arrival at Milan, Athekame has yet to make his debut in the new shirt. But the full-back has a clear mindset:
"It’s my duty to give my all in training to earn my place. I don’t put pressure on myself, I stay calm."
