Massimiliano Allegri’s Milan did not meet all its transfer targets last summer, so the club is looking at reopening negotiations in January with interest. The message sent to sporting director Igli Tare is clear and concerns the opportunity to take advantage of possible deals to complete and strengthen a squad that has performed well so far, but which is slightly short in defense after failed attempts to sign Manuel Akanji first and Joe Gomez later.

Joe Gomez from Liverpool could be an option for Milan:
The 1997-born Liverpool center-back came very close to joining Milan in the final hours of September 1, but the failed simultaneous move of Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace to Liverpool ended the deal, which would have given Allegri a physically strong defender with international experience to strengthen the defense. Milan had to rely until the new year on the growth of the starting trio Tomori, Gabbia, and Pavlovic, with only De Winter immediately available as an alternative, since 2006-born Odogu is primarily a prospect. Joe Gomez’s candidacy remains alive for January, as he has not had much playing time so far, appearing only in the Carabao Cup match against Southampton and in two 29-minute stints in the Premier League. His remaining at Liverpool allowed Arne Slot to cover for the serious injury of Giovanni Leoni, as per Calcio Mercato.
Milan and Inter linked with Mario Gila...
A new name emerging, reported by Il Corriere dello Sport, is Mario Gila. The 2000-born defender from Barcelona is in a special situation at Lazio, where he is a key player under Maurizio Sarri. His contract expires in summer 2027, and so far there seems little chance of a renewal, given interest from other clubs, including Inter, which might lose Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij at the end of the season. Gila’s agent Alejandro Camano, who also represents Lautaro Martinez, has a strong relationship with Inter.
Without a contract extension, Gila risks finishing the current season with only one year left, reducing Lazio’s negotiating power. The club also faces liquidity issues and other financial limits that blocked signings in the last window, making Gila a potential asset to generate funds for completing Sarri’s squad.
Is AC Milan interested in Udinese's Thomas Kristensen?
From Milan’s perspective, Thomas Kristensen of Udinese remains on the radar. Observed multiple times by Milan scouts, the 2002-born Danish center-back was bought by Udinese for only 5 million euros in January 2023. With a current valuation of around 15 million euros, he represents a potential quality-to-price deal.
