This season, Rafa Leao is far less at the center of Milan’s play, or rather, he is playing as a center forward. It has been a while since we have seen the Portuguese star burst down the left flank, hugging the byline with stepovers one after another. That was the old Leao. Now we see a completely different player, operating with his back to goal and using his strength to shield the ball. Who would have expected that?
He has already matched last season’s goal tally, now the aim is higher
And yet players change, they evolve, for the good of the team and the club. Even if Leao is talked about less and less, his contribution in front of goal has been truly impressive. La Gazzetta dello Sport points out that with yesterday’s goal against Como, Rafa equaled the number of goals he scored last season, eight, as relayed via Milan Press.
But that is not all. The Rossoneri number 10 has recorded eight goals and two assists so far, becoming only the second player to be involved in at least ten goals in each of the last six Serie A seasons. The first is Lautaro Martínez. Quietly but steadily, Rafa Leao keeps adding to his tally and helps the team avoid defeat. A form of silent leadership?
