A new chapter of turmoil is currently unfolding in Milan: the largest petition ever launched by AC Milan fans (with over 35,000 signatures at the time of writing) is currently targeting CEO Giorgio Furlani (a figure never regarded as a true Milanista by the Rossoneri supporters).
Over the last four years, Milan have suffered a number of humiliating defeats on the pitch, but that is not all: it all began with the humiliating sacking of Paolo Maldini. Humiliating for the entire Rossoneri movement, which continues to see Paolo as an indelible figurehead for the history he has represented for the club, but not only that: with Maldini, Milan had started winning again.
Nevertheless, Milan fans managed to move on and hope for something glorious, even after the departure of their former icon, but talk of winning projects, glorious signings and the like vanished into thin air, and it made way for heavy humiliations to which Milan had certainly never been accustomed. Along with Paolo Maldini, Sandro Tonali had also left, a Rossoneri icon and a hugely important player both on and off the pitch.
Just consider that Tonali himself, today, on his birthday, reposted Milan’s birthday wishes, wearing the Rossoneri shirt: unafraid of the reaction from his Newcastle fans. Proving, once again, that he is a true Milanista. With Maldini’s departure, Theo Hernandez was also ‘forced’ to leave the club.

His close ties with former club officials were probably not a good thing for the current club, and perhaps not for the player himself either. On the pitch, however, Milan fared even worse: last year saw them completely miss out on European competition and suffer a humiliating defeat against Bologna in the Coppa Italia final. Going back two years, however, the Rossoneri faithful faced perhaps the worst humiliation in their history: Inter won their 20th Scudetto at San Siro, against the Rossoneri themselves, thus securing a victory that humiliated the Rossoneri once again.
Over these four years, there is little point in mentioning the sole victory, namely the Italian Super Cup won against Inter a year ago in Saudi Arabia, as it will surely be forgotten. But unfortunately, the fans are unlikely to forget the last four shameful years. A project built, demolished and dismantled time and again: managers, players, directors – all for the sake of a purely FINANCIAL outcome. For Rossoneri fans, the current chief executive is one of the main culprits for the past four football seasons. The petition meanwhile, it has become has gone viral, even reaching New York, where the world’s most famous Milan club: AC Milan Club New York City, has joined the protest.
