If we rewind the tape by about a month and a half, before the last international break, it was believed that Milan already had their seasonal objective firmly in hand: qualification for the Champions League. From the away match in Naples onwards, however, the Rossoneri’s total collapse began, leading Massimiliano Allegri’s team to the current situation, where they risk missing out on Europe’s top competition and where harsh criticism from the fans towards the Milan ownership has resurfaced. According to Gazzetta.it, all of this has only fuelled the deep dissatisfaction of owner Gerry Cardinale, who had expected a completely different kind of season.
With two matches still remaining before the end of the season and with their fate still in their own hands, the message coming from the head of RedBird Capital Partners is to stay united and try to achieve the objective. But whatever the outcome, after the final league matchday, the time for reflection will come. According to the Italian newspaper, everyone will be under scrutiny, including the entire management structure: never before have they been so uncertain about their future. Giorgio Furlani, Igli Tare, Geoffrey Moncada and Zlatan Ibrahimović all bear part of the responsibility. Rebuilding next season will depend on who remains on the fourth floor, as well as on whether Massimiliano Allegri stays or departs.
