"I have two answers ready: one ironic and one serious. Let’s use the serious one because this is not the time to argue. I will simply say that I wish Cardinale well at the top of Milan and hope he follows a path similar to ours over the last six years, with 9 trophies won, plus 2 Champions League finals and an Europa League final reached. I believe it is a record that cannot be forgotten. The ironic answer? We’ll save it for the next bit of nastiness," as relayed via ANSA.
This was how Inter president Giuseppe Marotta responded, in an interview with DAZN, to the jab made by Milan owner Gerry Cardinale. The Rossoneri owner, in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, had referred to Inter’s defeat in the Champions League final against PSG to highlight the gap between Serie A and the rest of Europe: "It’s not just about Serie A. It’s about not showing up in Champions League finals and losing 5–0,” Cardinale had said.
