Gerry Cardinale is considering a restructuring of AC Milan’s management.
Giorgio Furlani is on his way out, so much so that the Rossoneri owner has tasked Massimo Calvelli with finding a new chief executive for the club management. The selection process is open and includes both Italian and foreign candidates. This is reported in this morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, which adds that a decision may not arrive this week.
Who is Massimo Calvelli?
Born in Montevarchi in 1974, Calvelli was a fairly skilled tennis player in his youth, reaching a career-high ATP ranking of 255. After retiring from professional tennis, from 2009 to 2011 he worked for Wilson as Global Business Director, then spent eight years at Nike, where he focused on marketing and negotiated agreements with major tennis players such as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Serena Williams. From 2020 to 2025, he served as Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Tennis Professionals: during his tenure, the ATP recorded five consecutive years of double-digit growth in revenue and profits and signed a historic agreement with the Saudi sovereign wealth fund PIF, which became the main sponsor of some tournaments, as well as the Finals and the Next Gen Finals, as relayed via Milannews.it.
Calvelli joined RedBird in July 2025, where he holds the position of CEO International at RedBird Development Group and Operating Partner at RedBird Capital Partners. What do these roles involve? In practice, he works closely with the group’s leadership to promote international growth and enhance the value of the company’s portfolio in the sports, media, and entertainment sectors. After joining the AC Milan board in November 2025, he is now taking on an increasingly central role in the new AC Milan envisioned by Gerry Cardinale.
