The first step for Milan is to find the right and desired replacements for the four roles currently vacant: head coach, sporting director, technical director, and club CEO. This is the absolute priority of this first week of the RedBird-led revolution: the duo of Gerry Cardinale and Zlatan Ibrahimovic is already working on each of these fronts and believes that within ten days they can have all the relevant names in hand. Only at that point will they focus on building the squad. Some players, however, are already beginning to reflect on their future. Above all, two of them: Rafael Leao and Luka Modric.
The Portuguese and the Croatian are the focus of today’s article in the Gazzetta dello Sport, which says the following about the future of both: "A two-faced Diavolo. World Cup and then retirement, Modric is considering it. Leao only wants Milan." The subtitle of the article goes into even more detail on the matter: "The Croatian is reflecting after the Champions League failure and Allegri’s departure. Rafa is appreciated abroad but wants to stay."
Both will be at the World Cup: for the former Real Madrid player it could be a farewell tour from football, while for the Portuguese it could be an opportunity to relaunch himself. The number 10, despite some initial interest from Saudi Arabia or Turkey, has no intention of leaving and has reportedly already communicated this to Ibrahimovic as well.
