After failing to qualify for the Champions League and following last Monday’s upheaval, in which Furlani, Moncada, Tare and Allegri were dismissed, it has been a very turbulent week at Milan. Gerry Cardinale, Zlatan Ibrahimović and Massimo Calvelli are trying to reorganise the club quickly because it is already the end of May and there is no more time to waste. While waiting to appoint a new CEO, the three leading figures behind Milan’s restructuring are working to define the club’s technical department, which could be placed under the control of Ralf Rangnick. If he does ultimately arrive as the new sporting director (he is Cardinale’s and Ibrahimović’s preferred choice), he could then appoint one of his protégés as head coach, namely Oliver Glasner or Matthias Jaissle.
This was reported this morning by La Gazzetta dello Sport, which explains that in recent hours the prospects of the coach who, just a few days ago, led Crystal Palace to Conference League glory have risen significantly. So much so that Milan and Glasner have arranged a meeting in the coming days, probably at the beginning of next week, to discuss his possible move to Milanello.
Jaissle, however, remains in contention as well, although there would be a cost involved in releasing him from Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia (around €6 million). Both men were part of Rangnick’s major transformation within the Red Bull football network: Glasner joined Red Bull Salzburg in a managerial role but was later persuaded by the German to begin a coaching career. Jaissle, meanwhile, played under the current Austria national team manager at Hoffenheim and, in 2015, began coaching in Salzburg’s youth academy under the guidance of his mentor.
New AC Milan director: Fajardo and Rodriguez on the shortlist
Milan will also appoint a new sporting director, and once again the club is looking abroad, this time to Spain. The Rossoneri have already held several discussions with Manu Fajardo, sporting director of Real Betis since 2024. Born in 1985, he is the same age as Luka Modrić and has dedicated his professional life to identifying and developing young talent.
The alternative option is 46-year-old Jorge Rodríguez of Villarreal. Milan’s new structure is gradually taking shape and, if Rangnick decides to accept the club’s offer, he will head the technical department. The rest of the key decisions, beginning with the appointment of the head coach, would then be left to him.
