Rafael Leao's adventure at Milan comes to an end. Seven years, one league title, one Italian Super Cup.
In the meeting that Cardinale had with a number of selected journalists at the beginning of the week, the head of RedBird came up with the brilliant idea, on the advice of those responsible for his "communication" (a big word, indeed), writes Milan News, of publicly airing the club's dissatisfaction with Leao.
Not that it came as a surprise, to be clear. It was obvious that the Portuguese player's cycle at Milan had reached its end: his performances and the boos he received throughout the season had confirmed it on several occasions. But Cardinale's reckless move, after four years still showing a complete disconnect from how communication works in the world of football, put Milan in a weaker position.
What could possibly go wrong when you so casually put your strongest player, your most representative player, and your most valuable asset on the market? And, unsurprisingly, Rafa's response was not long in coming.
