Anyone who thought that with the revolution led by Gerry Cardinale there would no longer be internal divisions at Milan will unfortunately have to think again, writes Milan News. After last week’s dismissals of Giorgio Furlani, Geoffrey Moncada, Igli Tare and Massimiliano Allegri, the Rossoneri owner is trying to fill the vacant roles in the Milan organisational structure with the help of Zlatan Ibrahimović and Massimo Calvelli, but the two RedBird executives appear to have rather different ideas about who should be brought into the club.
This is reported this morning by Corriere della Sera, which explains that these internal divisions are significantly complicating and slowing down Cardinale’s overhaul. The two have different visions for the future of the club’s technical department: on one side there is Ibrahimović, who as sporting director would like Ramon Planes, assisted by Rafaela Pimenta, former right-hand of Mino Raiola; on the other side there is Calvelli, who would like to entrust the entire technical area to Ralf Rangnick.
The German coach, who yesterday neither confirmed nor denied reports of Milan’s interest, is very intrigued by the Rossoneri’s proposal, but he will only agree if he is given full control, starting with the choice of the new manager. The two names he has in mind are Matthias Jaissle and Oliver Glasner (with further contacts scheduled between today and tomorrow).
Zlatan Ibrahimović is obviously not in favour of Ralf Rangnick being given full powers and making all the most important decisions, and is therefore reportedly opposing the arrival of the current Austria national team coach, who in the coming days will decide whether to accept or reject the Austrian Football Federation’s renewal offer.
For the managerial role, the Swede is targeting either Mauricio Pochettino, coach of the United States national team, or Arne Slot, the coach who was recently relieved of his duties as Liverpool manager.
In short, tensions are far from absent within the club, confirming that at Milan everything has changed but it seems that nothing has changed at all.
