In recent years, AC Milan’s management under Cardinale can no longer be described merely as a sporting project open to debate, but rather as a sequence of managerial decisions that raise serious questions about how the club is being governed and how its historical identity is being treated.
Since 2023, the notion of a long-term (project) has been publicly promoted. However, the practical reality has reflected a very different trajectory, characterized by continuous changes in vision, personnel, and strategic direction across both sporting and administrative levels, without clear structural stability.
One of the most controversial episodes has been the official statement announcing the dismissal of several internal staff members, published through the club’s official website under the ownership group’s name. This is not a minor administrative detail; it raises sharp questions about institutional communication, governance standards, and the respect shown toward AC Milan as an independent sporting entity with its own legacy, identity, and fan base.
The more critical issue, however, is not only the decision itself but the institutional silence surrounding it, particularly regarding the role of the chairman, Paolo Scaroni, who is expected to represent a key governance layer within the club. How can a communication of such sensitivity be approved and released in a way that blurs the line between club identity and ownership voice? This is a fundamental governance question that cannot be ignored.
At the same time, the continued reliance on the term (project) appears increasingly disconnected from a reality marked by repeated shifts in direction and decision-making, making the concept itself logically questionable.
The departure of Paolo Maldini also represents a decisive turning point in the club’s sporting and structural trajectory, not only for its symbolic value, but because of the internal balance he provided a balance that has not been effectively replaced since.
Today, amid ongoing efforts to reframe the club’s public image in a more coherent and controlled narrative, the core question remains: are we witnessing a genuine and structured project, or a communications-driven attempt to reshape perception rather than build sustainable sporting reality?
