During the usual episode of TMW's podcast "Caffè Di Marzio", transfer-market expert Gianluca Di Marzio spoke about AC Milan, focusing in particular on the club ownership's ongoing search for a foreign coach and explaining, in his own way, the reasons behind it:
"The directive from the ownership, therefore from Gerry Cardinale, advised by Zlatan Ibrahimović, is precisely to focus on a non-Italian figure. In reality, this applies not only to the choice of head coach, but also to the sporting director and the chief executive officer. While all of a club's strategic planning choices deserve respect, I honestly struggle to understand this reluctance to appoint an Italian.
Beyond the roles of CEO and sporting director, which can certainly also be filled by people from abroad, if there is one thing Italy currently does well, given the shortage of top-level technical talent, it is producing coaches. Recent Italian successes demonstrate this, for example, Farioli's achievements at Porto, as well as the presence of two visionary coaches in the Premier League, such as De Zerbi at Tottenham and Maresca, most likely at Manchester City."
