The new Milan is still in the planning phase; several options are being studied, although at the moment there is one track that appears to be the favourite of the Milan owner. In fact, a double track: Oliver Glasner on the bench and Ralf Rangnick heading Milan’s technical area.
Glasner is the main candidate to take over at Milanello:
According to this morning’s La Gazzetta dello Sport, the fact that Cardinale was in Germany on Monday for a six-hour meeting with the Austrian coach, who has recently officially left the Crystal Palace bench, is an indication that he is currently the leading candidate for the Milan job. Glasner, who is in turn very intrigued by Milan’s interest, is appreciated because he has international experience and a modern playing style, the two key requirements sought by the RedBird owner. There is no certainty about the timing of the decision, but it is unlikely to arrive before next week.
What about Rangnick?
The same applies to Ralf Rangnick, who will today leave for the World Cup with Austria. The German, to whom Cardinale is considering entrusting the actual rebuilding of Milan’s sporting project, has had meetings and contacts in recent days as well. The connection between the Austrian national team coach and Glasner dates back to their time at FC Red Bull Salzburg, and it remains to be seen whether it could become relevant again at Milan. The Milan owner is pushing for this solution, while his advisor Zlatan Ibrahimović would prefer to give the coaching job to Mauricio Pochettino and bring Ramón Planes into the club as sporting director. However, Cardinale was clear before starting his revolution: from now on he will make the decisions himself, and therefore the direction is moving towards the Rangnick–Glasner pairing to restart Milan
