Santiago Giménez and Milan. It seems like the beginning of a love story that started well and has (so far) reached a peak, a limit so significant that it cannot be surpassed. Bebote has been a flop this past season. Just one goal, and not even in the league in almost a full calendar year, as the goal was scored in September in the Coppa Italia against Lecce. The usual injuries and physical problems, ankle surgery, and a relationship with Massimiliano Allegri that never truly blossomed. Having arrived last January after excelling in his happy place at Feyenoord, Bebote immediately breathed in the feeling of home at Milan.
The assist for João Félix on his debut against Roma, the goals first in Serie A against Empoli and then in the Champions League against his former team. And then? Conceição's Milan began to fall apart, and Santi lost his way for a variety of reasons. One important note: Bebote had arrived in Milan already carrying physical issues picked up in the Netherlands. The after-effects now seem almost ghostly, considering how this unusual and controversial season eventually ended.
After a very promising start last January, Santi Giménez has effectively disappeared over the past two years, just like the rest of Milan. His last league goal dates back to 10 May 2025, when he scored a brace against Bologna at San Siro, while his last official goal came in the Coppa Italia match Milan–Lecce on 23 September. A rare event, almost magical. After those two goals against Bologna, Bebote has not scored again in Serie A. Last season, from January onwards, he made 19 league appearances and scored 6 goals. A modest return considering what he had shown in the Netherlands and with the national team as well.
