Regarding Massimiliano Allegri's Milan season, which ended with a home defeat against Cagliari and failure to qualify for the Champions League, Alessandro Nesta, former Milan defender, told Gazzetta dello Sport:

"Max bears responsibility, just as all the players do. But Milan’s real problem was the great confusion within the club. At the same time, and for the same reason, I do not think it will be difficult to put things back in order. Restructuring a club is not difficult if you put the right people in the right roles. Everyone must have clear duties and responsibilities: that is how you start again, with clear prospects."

In recent weeks, Zlatan Ibrahimović, his former teammate at Milan, has been the target of much criticism from Milan supporters:

"I have a very good relationship with Zlatan, but I cannot judge him in his role as an executive. He was certainly an outstanding teammate. However, the order that a club needs must come from the top, and I repeat, I do not see it as being particularly difficult."

On what Milan most need in the transfer market and on the future of the club’s managerial position:

"If the new Milan needs a great striker or a great defender more? Absolutely a great centre-forward. I believe the foundations of the team are already strong as they are; the potential is there. A good goalkeeper, Pavlović, who has improved enormously, and a solid midfield. Then it also depends on what happens in the summer transfer market. A new coach? Everything must start with the sporting director. With a capable sporting director, who chooses a good coach according to his own vision, and together they establish a clear path to achieve results, they can succeed even in a short period of time."

Nesta then gave his view on the current pecking order for next season’s Serie A championship, which will begin on the weekend of 23 August:

"League predictions? Inter are ahead, while Napoli remain to be assessed. In my opinion, if Milan are restructured properly, they can immediately finish second."
