Koni De Winter, speaking from the Belgian training camp near Seattle, commented to La Gazzetta dello Sport on how complicated this season at Milan was, which ended with failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League:
"I can say that playing for Milan is… difficult. There is a lot of pressure, a lot of expectations. I think a player has to learn to manage all of this, and that I made a good choice in joining this big club. I have learned a lot, I have gained experience and personally I think I have grown a lot."
Arriving last summer from Genoa, De Winter struggled a bit at the start, but then in the second half of the season he found plenty of playing time and showed, despite ups and downs, that he had grown in all aspects. The Belgian defender, whom Max Allegri used in all three positions in Milan’s back three, made a total of 29 appearances across Serie A, the Coppa Italia and the Italian Super Cup, also scoring one goal (in the league against Roma).
