Ralf Rangnick will not be the next sporting and technical director of AC Milan
The ex Schalke 04 coach, who had made very specific requests during his talks with Cardinale, has grown tired of waiting and should now be considered out of the running for an executive role at Casa Milan.
Rangnick wanted a clear answer from Gerry Cardinale before the World Cup with his Austria side began, but that answer never came. Following the meetings of recent weeks, during which "Der Professor" had laid out precise and detailed demands regarding his areas of responsibility within the club, the green light never arrived. Milan, represented by Cardinale, is not willing to hand over that much decision-making power to a single individual, someone who would have brought in his own team of assistants and who would have been central to every decision, including matters concerning the youth academy, as relayed via those at Milan News.
Rangnick cannot coexist with Ibrahimovic
Rangnick, given his particular background and experience in football, did not want any form of outside interference, especially from Zlatan Ibrahimović. The Swede evidently created friction and unpleasant situations with manager Massimiliano Allegri during the past season. Rangnick wanted clauses and agreements put in writing to prevent such issues from arising. That did not happen.
By failing to choose, Milan effectively made its choice. The German had set today as a deadline, but received no response from Cardinale. Ralf will now focus 100% on the World Cup with Austria, while the national federation already has a contract extension ready for him. The intention is for him to continue at least until the next European Championship.
After weeks of back-and-forth negotiations, Ralf Rangnick's name can also be crossed off the list. The days keep passing, time keeps moving, the number of rejections and collapsed agreements keeps growing, and Cardinale's Milan continues to lack both direction and structure.
