Ruben Amorim has surged into pole position in the race for the AC Milan managerial job following the latest talks between the parties. While until a few days ago the leading candidate to replace the dismissed Max Allegri was Oliver Glasner, the former Crystal Palace manager's chances have dropped significantly in recent hours, while those of the Portuguese coach have risen sharply. Amorim has overtaken all the other contenders and is now the clear favourite.
For the former Manchester United manager, a two-year contract is reportedly ready, with an option for a third year and a fixed salary of around €4 million per season. Matthias Jaissle remains in contention, but he is still under contract with Al-Ahli, which leaves Amorim as the frontrunner.
The Portuguese coach, coming off a difficult spell in charge of Manchester United that ended with his dismissal last January, appears to be Zlatan Ibrahimović's preferred choice. His appointment would certainly be an intriguing one given how well he performed at Sporting Lisbon. At the same time, however, it could be considered a risk in light of his failure at Old Trafford (not entirely his fault, of course).
He is not a stabiliser-type manager but rather a project-oriented coach, someone who needs time and support, especially in the transfer market, where he requires players suited to his style of play. This was relayed by Antonio Vitiello for Milan News.
