This morning's edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport carries the headline:
"Milan, Amorim on the rise."
After an extremely long selection process lasting three weeks, Gerry Cardinale is finally about to choose the new manager of Milan, who will take over on the bench from the dismissed Max Allegri. Barring any sensational surprises, the choice has fallen on Ruben Amorim, who already has a preliminary agreement with the club for a two-year contract with an option for a further season, worth approximately €3 million per year. For the long-awaited green light, only Cardinale’s final approval is still missing.
Amorim, currently without a club after being dismissed by Manchester United in January, is at present the clear favourite for the Milan job and is expected to beat competition from three other candidates who have been considered at length by the Rossoneri: Matthias Jaissle (the main obstacle would be releasing him from Al Ahli, as it would require €12 million), Oliver Glasner (he has lost ground in recent days without Rangnick’s backing), and Mauricio Pochettino (he is currently involved in the World Cup with the United States and therefore would only be available from later in July).
