Gianluca Di Marzio, within “Caffè Di Marzio” – the podcast in collaboration between TuttoMercatoWeb.com and Gianlucadimarzio.com – commented as follows on the situation at Milan, who are still without a management structure:
"I have to say that Milan’s situation, which still does not have a sporting director or a Head of Football, call it what you will, is not only worrying the Rossoneri fans, who on 18 June still cannot see any clarity regarding a figure who can start negotiations. It worries me as a sportsman, as an enthusiast, as a football expert, as someone who has lived in football for 30 years and who had a father who was first a coach, then a sporting director, and who taught me how this relationship between coach and sporting director was at the heart of success in football."
"To think that Milan chose a coach by relying on him, and that this coach had been given the green light by a sporting director who then in reality did not arrive either because he was not released, or because the club did not want to let him go, leaves me quite stunned, honestly. Normally, a club should work in a different way, first focusing on a football figure who can then choose the coach depending on certain conditions."
"Moreover, in Italy we are actually masters in this, because the role of the sporting director is important for our football, while elsewhere it is often not considered. In England there used to be the manager-coach, the coach who did everything, and this probably also led certain teams to lack an effective structure. Even Amorim at Manchester United, when he had to make the choices on his own with directors who nevertheless supported him, was not able to achieve the objective."
