Nearly a month after his dismissal, former AC Milan sporting director Igli Tare spoke to SportMediaset about his present situation, the difficult recent past, the future, and his experience with the Rossoneri. Below are his comments:
“I’m doing fairly well. Right now I want to spend some time with my family, which really helps you recover.”
On Max Allegri’s imminent move to Napoli
“He’s a top-class manager. Napoli’s decision was a wise one, consistent with the ambitions the club has and must continue to have for next season. These situations are part of our game and our profession. Allegri was already one of Napoli’s possible candidates last year, so they have kept the relationship alive. Max and I speak often — we call each other every two or three days. We made some mistakes, but Allegri is a coach who has achieved great things in the history of Italian football and will continue to do so.”
On Milan, Tare said:
“I hope Milan can find stability and establish a serious project for the future. Leão? I don’t know whether it is good or bad for him to want new experiences, but when a player has that desire, it usually means the relationship has come to an end and the cycle is over. His qualities are beyond question; he just needs to find consistency throughout matches because he is the kind of player who can decide games on his own. That didn’t happen this year, partly because of the physical problems he had.”
From Milan to Italy, from Allegri to Mancini
“Italy can certainly restart from Mancini’s experience. He was the last national team manager to win a major trophy and could now resume the work that was interrupted. This is the time to make brave decisions and invest in young players. There are promising talents — you only need to look at the results of the youth teams. What is needed, however, is courage: giving them trust and being patient with them.”
