It has been a very unusual year for Christopher Nkunku, individually better compared to recent seasons marred by injuries. Arriving with the expectation of a role that is not his own (centre-forward), the Frenchman took a long time to adapt to the new league as well as to regain fitness after a very difficult period physically.
From January onwards, the Frenchman’s performances have certainly improved: nothing exceptional and plenty of ups and downs, but he has certainly been the best among the forwards even in the recent disappointing outings. His future now hangs in the balance.
According to what La Gazzetta dello Sport reports this morning, the new Rossoneri coach Ruben Amorim has already made it clear that he wants to keep Christopher Nkunku in the squad. If he is fit, the Frenchman would have the ideal characteristics that the Portuguese coach is looking for in his 3-4-2-1 system. Similar to Pulisic, he is also considered untouchable: unlike Rafa Leão, who would be somewhat trapped in a rather congested position. Amorim’s approval is there; now the decision passes to Nkunku himself, who will have to express his intentions, especially with the Turkish transfer market having already tried to target him in January.
