Two Milan players are on holiday after the World Cup, and their futures seem to have already been decided, although nothing has been officially confirmed yet. On one side there is Luka Modrić, the timeless Croatian star whom the Rossoneri club would like to keep for next season as also confirmed by Ruben Amorim; on the other there is Rafael Leão, a talent who has often been misunderstood or inconsistent and who appears to have his bags packed after seven years at the club. Regarding both situations, Modrić’s possible stay and Leão’s departure, transfer expert journalist Matteo Moretto provided some updates in his latest YouTube video.
Milan to meet Modric soon:
Milan will meet with Luka Modrić in the coming hours. The Rossoneri club considers it little more than a formality, but direct contact with the player and his representatives will still be necessary. The assurances requested by the Croatian star are not related to financial matters, but rather to guarantees about the technical and sporting project.
From an environmental point of view, Modrić has always said that he feels extremely comfortable in Milan, and the same applies to his family, with one of his daughters even playing in the Rossoneri youth academy. Modrić is convinced that he can remain at the club, but, as mentioned, a direct meeting with Milan is needed to officially confirm his continuation.
Rafael Leão’s situation remains completely at a standstill. The Portuguese forward had started the summer aggressively, declaring on almost every occasion that he wanted to leave Milan this summer. The World Cup was very much a reflection of Leão himself: some significant flashes of quality amid a Portugal side that looked lacklustre and which still gave him limited playing time.
The result, combined with his less-than-excellent performances last season, is that there are currently only two offers on Leão’s table: one from Galatasaray and one from Fenerbahçe. That is all, nothing from the Premier League, nothing from La Liga, and not even from the Saudi league, as pointed out via Milannews.it.
At the moment, the Rossoneri’s number 10 is waiting because he does not want to end up in Türkiye. Instead, he would prefer to wait and see how the transfer market develops, hoping that opportunities arise in leagues he would favour, namely England and Spain.
As things stand today, however, Leão is expected to join up with the Milan squad in Perth at the end of July.
