Rafael Leão is set to rejoin AC Milan on 29 July during the club's pre-season tour in Perth after taking a post-Club World Cup holiday. At the beginning of June, the Portuguese forward publicly suggested that his time at Milan had come to an end, effectively putting himself on the market. However, no club has yet approached the Rossoneri with an offer close to the €50–60 million valuation set by the club. As things stand, Leão will return to Ruben Amorim's squad.
Galatasaray pushing, but no offer for Milan
Leão was recently spotted in Turkey, where Galatasaray remain one of the most concrete options. The Istanbul club are reportedly prepared to offer him a four-year contract worth around €10 million net per season. The key question, however, is whether they will meet Milan's asking price for the Portuguese international.
Fenerbahçe have also made an enquiry about Leão, but the player's preferred destinations remain the Premier League and La Liga, with no concrete offers arriving from either. Interest from Saudi Arabia has so far been limited to preliminary contacts, as relayed via Milannews.it.
There is now a genuine possibility that Leão could fail to secure a move to a club of his choosing. As a result, a loan move may also be discussed, although Milan would only consider that option if it included a substantial upfront loan fee and an obligation to buy.
Karetsas waiting as Amorim assesses Leão in Perth
Leão's unresolved future is also affecting Milan's incoming transfer business. After already spending around €100 million on Gonçalo Ramos and Mario Gila, the Rossoneri must generate funds through player sales before completing the squad.
Konstantinos Karetsas remains the club's top target for the attacking midfield role, but any move for the 2007-born talent depends on departures.
With Christian Pulisic, Christopher Nkunku and Samuel Chukwueze already in the squad, Leão staying would leave Milan with an overcrowded attacking department. Amorim will nevertheless have the chance to assess him during the pre-season tour in Perth. The Portuguese coach has also requested more time to evaluate Pervis Estupiñán, temporarily putting his proposed move to Aston Villa on hold.
