Mario Gila, who is currently sidelined with an injury, returned directly to Milan from Perth instead of travelling to Jakarta with the squad. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the thigh problem he picked up against Celtic on 25 July has not yet fully healed, meaning he would not have been available for Saturday's match against Chelsea on 8 August.
The online edition of the newspaper reports that the Spanish defender is expected to rejoin full training next week. If that proves to be the case, he will have been out for more than two weeks, despite Milan previously announcing that medical tests had shown no muscle lesion.
To complete his recovery, Gila will continue working at Milanello, as the combination of travel, pre-match preparations and training sessions in Jakarta would not have been ideal for his rehabilitation. He will follow his individual recovery programme until the squad returns from the pre-season tour. At that point, although it remains subject to confirmation, he is expected to resume training with the rest of the team, as relayed via Milannews.it.
Also returning to Italy from Perth, by technical decision, were Guarnier, Borsani, Kostić and Ossola.
