It took a little longer than expected, but Milan can now finally start enjoying Gonçalo Ramos. The Portuguese striker, the new Rossoneri No. 9 and the most expensive signing in the club’s history, has the chance to start today in the friendly against Chelsea in Jakarta at 1pm Italian time. Ruben Amorim can finally unleash the striker on whom Milan’s fortunes will likely be built this season.
Gonçalo Ramos searching for goals with AC Milan:
There is one thing Gonçalo Ramos was signed to do that no one in Milan’s attack managed to do consistently last season, especially from January onwards: score goals, and lots of them. It is no coincidence that the club invested so heavily and so quickly in a striker of international calibre.
For now, the Portuguese forward is not putting too much pressure on himself, as shown by comments reported by Gazzetta dello Sport during yesterday’s presentation of Milan’s third kit in Indonesia:
“How many goals do I want to score this season? I don’t like putting numbers on it... I just want to play, enjoy myself and try to help the team. And show my best with Milan.”
What is certain is that Milan will be relying heavily on Ramos, who can begin building the starting role he has wanted for so long by making his first start today.
Ruben Amorim is wasting no time and will start Gonçalo Ramos from the outset today. Behind him will be the same players who accompanied him during the half-hour against Inter: Rafa Leão and Christopher Nkunku.
While everyone waits to see him in action, the pink newspaper reports that Ramos has been sending important signals in training, finding the net with great consistency.
The weight of Milan’s attack will be on his shoulders, along with the responsibility of wearing the No. 9 shirt. In recent years, only Olivier Giroud managed to wear it with great success.
In this regard, Pippo Inzaghi gave Milan’s new striker his blessing yesterday with these words:
“I like him because he is a No. 9 who moves well and has goals in his blood. Hopefully this year the striker will be the right one and that No. 9 shirt will bring him luck.”
