The poor performance and subsequent defeat in Jakarta against Chelsea have cast new shadows over Milan, bringing the issue of the transfer market firmly back into focus. After making two signings and investing more than €100 million in total at the start of the window, the club have effectively taken their foot off the gas.
Aside from the arrival of Sankhoun Diawara, there have been no further additions, but more importantly, there have still been no departures. Milan now find themselves with a large squad containing several players who do not appear to fit Ruben Amorim’s ideas.
Milan have three weeks (or two, considering the start of the league season) to get rid of some of their surplus players and find reinforcements who fit the coach’s tactical preferences. This is the aspect highlighted by Il Giornale, who has seized on the opportunity following the poor performance against Chelsea.
The Italian newspaper writes:
"Milan alarm, Rossoneri overwhelmed by Chelsea in Jakarta as Amorim announces that decisions will be made."
It then focuses specifically on the issue of squad construction: "At Milan, it is time to finalise the squad."
