Despite last season ending with just one goal in the Coppa Italia and being spent largely on the sidelines due to injury, despite a World Cup campaign as a substitute that did little to put him in the spotlight, and despite finishing the tournament with an injury that he is recovering from these days, Santiago Gimenez still has admirers.
Leading the race is Porto, who have stepped up their interest after making initial contact with the player during the World Cup. The Portuguese club and Milan are in negotiations, while the Dragons are also in talks with the striker’s entourage.
Gimenez fully open to Porto move:
As already reported, Porto and Gimenez are at an advanced stage in their negotiations, but it is above all the agreement between the Portuguese side and Milan that will make the difference. According to Corriere dello Sport, Gimenez is already fully open to the possibility of joining Porto, while an agreement between the clubs is proving more difficult.
Milan do not want to make a capital loss on the striker and will therefore ask for between €22 million and €25 million. As for the deal structure, the Portuguese side are pushing for an option to buy, while the Rossoneri would like to secure a return, if not immediately, then at least with certainty.
