Today could be an important day for Milan’s transfer market, as Gerry Cardinale is expected at Milanello to hold talks with Ruben Amorim and take stock of the situation.
The Rossoneri’s transfer campaign is by no means over; in fact, there is still plenty of work to be done.
The Milan head coach has had the opportunity to assess the entire squad at his disposal during the tour of Australia and Indonesia, and today he will have the chance to communicate his decisions to RedBird’s top executive.
Cardinale set to meet with Amorim to discuss AC Milan's transfer market agenda
The Italian newspaper Tuttosport reported this morning that Amorim will first identify the players who can be sold because they are not part of his technical plans. Among those on the way out are Athekame, Cissé, Odogu and Fofana (with Villarreal, Lyon and OM currently the latest options), Filippo Terracciano, Bondo, Estupiñán, Tomori (who does not want to leave), Gimenez (wanted by Porto), one of Ricci (admired by Atalanta) and Musah (on Trabzonspor’s radar), as well as Leao.
The latter’s future remains a major question mark, however. The Portuguese forward is still hoping for a call from a Premier League club, but for the time being, Galatasaray are the only team showing concrete interest in him.
Once some departures have been completed, Milan will then be able to continue strengthening the squad. Amorim would like another defender, with his dream target still Gonçalo Inácio of Sporting Lisbon. The Rossoneri could also bring in a wing-back, there has been talk of an enquiry for Atalanta’s Zalewski, and a midfielder, with Marseille’s Højbjerg among the names they like. However, these plans are dependent on departures.
A new attacking midfielder remains one of Milan’s major priorities. In recent weeks, Soulé of Roma, Nwaneri of Arsenal and Osorio of Midtjylland have all been sounded out or offered to the club, while yesterday a new name emerged from Germany: Said El Mala of FC Koln.
During today’s meeting with Amorim, Cardinale will reiterate a message that must be clear to everyone, including the player himself: Mike Maignan is not for sale. There has been controversy in recent days surrounding the Rossoneri captain after he requested additional time off, he will only return to Milanello on Sunday, just one week before the Serie A opener against Torino.
For the AC Milan’s owner, however, the French goalkeeper remains a key player and, as a result, he will not be leaving the club
