Rafael Leao is not part of the list of four players being pushed out at the request of Ruben Amorim, but he is also on the market, and Milan will do everything possible to try to sell him before the summer transfer window closes, including lowering their asking price to facilitate his departure. 'La Gazzetta dello Sport' reported this morning that, as things stand, the Portuguese winger is more likely to leave Milan than stay.
Amorim not keen on keeping Rafael Leao:
The reason is simple: Leao has failed to convince Amorim during these first few weeks of training, and the Milan coach has therefore given the green light for his departure. On the one hand, there are technical and tactical considerations, as Rafa is not the profile best suited to the playing style of the former Sporting CP and Manchester United coach. The Portuguese forward likes to stay wide on the left and is not accustomed to exploiting the so-called half-spaces, which are fundamental to Amorim's philosophy. There are also off-the-pitch considerations: the forward is reportedly viewed as a negative influence within the Milan dressing room.
AC Milan lower their demands regarding Rafael Leao:
To facilitate his departure, Milan have decided to lower their asking price for Leao: while they had previously demanded €50–60 million, €40–45 million could now be enough. This is certainly a more accessible figure that could encourage Galatasaray to make another attempt to sign Rafa. The Turkish club pushed hard in recent weeks to try to land the Portuguese forward, but they never put the amount Milan were demanding on the table.
From Leao's perspective, he has never been completely convinced about moving to Istanbul, as he still dreams of playing in the Premier League. No offers have arrived from England so far, however. Rafa's hope is that the situation could change as the summer transfer window approaches its conclusion. Otherwise, he will have to decide whether to accept a move to Galatasaray or remain at Milanello.
