After the end of last season, the English midfielder seemed to be heading towards the exit at Milan. The failure to qualify for the Champions League and the criticism from the fans did not unsettle Loftus-Cheek, who arrived at Milanello for the 13 July training camp seemingly out of favour at the club... but with a new manager in charge, as pointed out via MilanPress.
The possibility of a fresh start motivated the number 8, who remained under close scrutiny from both the manager and the transfer market. The well-known Italian journalist explained that Loftus-Cheek had attracted serious interest from two clubs, one from Serie A and one from the Premier League, but the 1996-born midfielder worked hard in training.
Not included among the players cut from the squad last week, Loftus-Cheek repaid Amorim's faith by scoring against Manchester United and delivering an excellent technical and tactical performance. Now, as pre-season comes to an end, he needs to find consistency, and, if possible, maintain good physical condition.
